Service Interruption - Edison Street Line

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Tuesday, July 13, 2010 - [Kennewick, WA] - The Kennewick Irrigation District will be shutting the Edison Line down this evening to do a structural investigation of the integrity of the pipe located underneath the railroad tracks.  Later on this month, the District will be doing work to reinforce this pipeline which is over 50 years old.

The canal will be shut down at approximately 1:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.  Depending on your location, some customers will have water until approximately 5:00 a.m.  At 6:00 a.m., the District will cut the line and film the area with a camera.  It will take approximately four hours to do all the work and put everything back together.  Water should be available to all customers by 8:00 p.m. tomorrow evening.

Approximately 5,184 parcels are within the boundaries of the Edison Street services interruption area.

Areas that will be affected are from 10th Avenue, down Edison Street, over to Olympia Street.  These include the following Pressurized Service Areas:  4, 7, 9, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 24, 29, 30, 34, 50, 53, 57, 58, 60, 74, 78, 87, 90, 95, 97, 100, 101, 115, 116, 124, 125, 140, 143, 144, 152, 154, 160 and parts of 117.

Private line areas affected are from 10th Avenue to Canal and from Kellogg Street to Olympia Street.

The District wants to encourage homeowners to irrigate between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.  This will spread the demand for water out which will provide better water pressure to all water users.

MOSS IN CANALS CAUSES SERVICE INTERUPTIONS

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

June 30, 2010 - [Kennewick, WA] - The Kennewick Irrigation District is experiencing a large amount of moss in several of the canals. In some areas the moss is restricting water flow causing low water pressure and plugging pump stations and agricultural weir boxes.

The District is continuing to treat the canals with chemicals to reduce the moss growth and to kill what already exists. The District will be making extra patrols to clean weed screens and pump station filters. The District is also asking all customers to clean their personal filters on a regular basis.
