The results of today’s canvassing of ballots for the 2008 election of Kennewick Irrigation Directors are:

Position 2:  Patrick McGuire, filling a vacated position

Position 3:  David McKenzie, replacing Bill Kinsel

Position 5:  Gene Huffman, replacing Dale Walter

The new directors will be sworn into office during the first KID Board meeting of 2009, commencing 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at the KID, 12 W. Kennewick Avenue, Kennewick, Washington.

A public workshop has been scheduled to provide an update on the status of the formation of the Local Improvement District (LID) for the south side of Red Mountain.  The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, December 9th, and will be held at the Terra Blanca Winery, 34715 N. DeMoss Road, Benton City, WA.

The owners of nearly 2,000 acres of land have petitioned KID to form a local improvement district to pay for construction of the irrigation system. The purpose of the meeting will be to update the landowners on the status of the water right application, the system design, projected costs, the variables which affect the costs, environmental issues and the potential construction schedule. Tom Tebb, Regional Director for the Department of Ecology, will be present and available to answer questions.

Property owners will be given an opportunity to ask questions at the meeting. If unable to attend the meeting, written comments or questions can be submitted to District Planner Scott Revell by email at srevell@kid.org.

Notice of the December 9th workshop meeting will be mailed to all property owners on the south side of Red Mountain next week.

Notice is hereby given that the annual election of Directors of the Kennewick Irrigation District will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2008 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

At said election, three Directors will be elected whose term of office shall begin the first Tuesday in January, 2009.  The candidate for Position 2 and the candidate for Position 5 receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected to complete the current terms, both ending in December 2009.  The candidate for Position 3 receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of three years.  The Board of Directors of the Kennewick Irrigation District has designated the principal business office of the District, located at 12 W. Kennewick Avenue, Kennewick, WA, to serve as the polling place for the District.

Any qualified District elector who certifies they cannot conveniently be present at the proper election precinct on the day of election may vote by absentee ballot.  A ballot and form of certificate of qualifications will be furnished upon receipt of written request being made to the Secretary/Manager of the District.  For your convenience, an absentee ballot request form is available at www.kid.org or at the KID business office.
