Pre-Construction Meeting Project Inspection Schedule

The following irrigation items will be inspected by the KID Inspector. Inspection is not limited to the
items lists. Additional inspection may be required by project. Please call 509.586.6012 ext. 174 to
schedule an inspection. Inspections must be scheduled two business days in advance. No inspections
will be scheduled for Fridays or Weekends.

1. Prior to construction:

a. Irrigation Materials: Inspecting for conformance to KID standards. This can be
completed by sending material submittal to inspections@kid.org or by physical
verification on site by KID Inspector.

b. Receipt of approved plans: This should be two full sized, two half sized and a pdf plan
set. Delivery of the plans can be scheduled with Kimberly Scharnhorst at 509.586.6012
ext. 141.

c. Standard Details can be found here. Posted standards are applicable.

d. A permit is required if work is proposed to be completed within a KID Easement/Right-of-Way. This is noted on the plans if applicable. Starting work without a permit may
cause delays to the project.

2. During Construction

a. Pipeline:

i. One Bell-Spigot connection for every 60 feet or 3 sticks of pipe.
ii. All pipe within the restraint length provided on the plans.
iii. Backfill Material: Material will be spot checked as necessary to ensure
appropriate fill is used.
iv. Bury Depth: Pipeline will be spot checked as necessary for 30″ minimum bury
depth.
v. Tracer Wire

1. Gel Packs are required. Other connections will not be accepted.
2. Continuity check prior to paving.

vi. Compaction Testing of trench lines

1. All backfill shall be compacted to 95% of max. density as determined by
ASTM D1557 unless noted otherwise.
2. Copy KID on any required compaction reports for irrigation trenches.

vii. Pressure Test

1. The test is for 2 hours at 150 psi with no pressure loss.

b. Fittings & Valves:

i. All Fittings & Valves will be inspected.
ii. Thrust Block size & bearing area.
iii. Mechanical Restraints attached to a fitting.

iv. Bolt torque: Torque to be spot checked.
v. Valve nut depth: To be inspected to determine if valve extensions will be
required.
vi. Tracer wire in valve cans – should extend 1 foot above top of can.
vii. Valve Cans after paving/finished grade

c. Services:

i. Service saddle & Pack Joint Poly connection at Mainline.
ii. Coupons for service taps shall be provided to the Inspector. We recommend the
contractor place the coupon on the saddle at each tap.
iii. Taps on PVC shall have a minimum offset of 3 feet on same side or 18” on
opposite side.
iv. Service valve connections & Pack Joint Poly connections at service valve.
v. Poly pipe – no splices allowed.
vi. Service box elevation & Drain Rock. Drain rock to be round.
vii. Service location inspection to be completed after property pins are installed.

d. Assemblies: (all components)

i. ARV Assembly

1. Note: Pipe should have positive slope to the air valve.
2. Poly pipe, pack joints and saddles to be inspected as detailed in service
connection.
3. Vault to be placed level with finished grade.

ii. System Drain Assembly

1. Poly pipe, pack joints and saddles to be inspected as detailed in service
connection.

iii. Temporary Blow-off Assembly
iv. Street Blow-off Assembly
v. Blow-off Assembly

1. Note: Round drain rock is required.

vi. Other assemblies shown on the plans.

e. Final Walkthrough & As Builts

i. As built survey points shall be taken at the following locations and provided to
KID.

1. Center of service box lids.
2. Top of Valve nut.
3. Center of top of above ground assemblies (ie. ARV Vault, Blow-off
Manhole).

ii. A Paper copy of the as builts will be required prior to completion of the walk
through. Changes will be noted on the paper copy and returned to the Engineer
for correction.
iii. Property corners are required to be set prior to walkthrough.

f. Locate Requests: Contractor is responsible for locating new irrigation facilities installed
as part of this construction prior to KID’s acceptance of the project.
g. After Construction

i. Follow-up inspection to be completed at 11 months for any warrantee items.

Other Information:

Plan Revisions/Request changes

1. All requests for revisions to the plans or material changes shall be made in writing to
inspections@kid.org.
2. Proposed plan revision should be made by the Design Engineer. A pdf of the revision needs to be
provided for review with revision clouds noting the proposed changes.
3. A written response will be provided to the email of the person requesting the change.
4. If a revision to the plans is approved, two full sized, two half sized and a pdf of the revised pages
are required. Delivery of the plans can be scheduled with Kimberly Scharnhorst at 509.586.6012
ext. 141.

a. Physical copies of revisions are required prior to starting construction as revised.

Scheduled Shut down Requests

1. Notify Inspector of shutdown request. Shutdowns are to be scheduled Tuesday through
Thursday. Weekend shutdowns are not allowed.
2. The following must occur prior to scheduling shutdown:

a. On Site meeting of the KID Inspector and Contractor to discuss KID requirements.
b. If applicable, contact the property or homeowner where the tie-in location will occur.
c. Contractor to dig and verify the connection pipe type and size.
d. KID Inspector to verify all necessary materials needed for connection are on site.

3. 48-hour notice is given to impacted customers. This notification is to be sent via the KID Public
Relations Department. If required by the District Engineer, the contractor shall contact
properties affected by shut down (door hangers, knocking, etc.). KID to provide maps if
necessary.
4. Shut down and tie-in shall take no longer than 4 hours and must be completed the same day.

Construction Water

1. Irrigation water for construction is available for work on properties with an irrigation allotment.
2. Contact Kimberly Scharnhorst at 509.586.6012 ext. 141 if you are interested in using irrigation
water for construction. Please have the property address or parcel number of the property
where work is occurring ready when requesting a meter.
3. Please be aware there is a fee for meter rental and construction water.
